The fourth episode focusses on the role of indigenous communities in the struggle for climate justice. This time, we are joined by activist, researcher and expert Jorge Andrés Forero-González who is an indigenous descendant himself.
listeners are introduced to the concept of "indigenous" communities. Based on the presented definition, emphasizing the close connection between indigenous peoples and their territories and nature, listeners learn that indigenous people are disproportionately affected by the consequences of the climate crisis and activities such as land grabbing by large corporations. However, indigenous activists – often young people who are born into these injustices - resist, often putting their lives at risk. The episode highlights the magnitude of the problem while also shifting focus towards successful acts of resistance.
Guest: Jorge Andrés Forero-González, a descendant of the Campesinos Community in Boyacá, Colombia, carries the legacy of his indigenous Muisca heritage. With expertise in economics and political science, he has spent the last 15 years working in the peace building process in Colombia.
